Bringing out the Real Baby

I speak from experience, my son is only 4 and already although I would like to think I remember everything in detail, I do not. It is only when I pull out the photos from my son when he was born that I can truely remember back to what it was like to hold him. I find myself thinking ‘oh thats right he had that mark there’.

So yes, I strongly recommend you get lots of photos of your new addition, and continue to get photos as they grow up. Most of those photos you will take yourself. But it really is worthwhile considering a professional photographer. I don’t mean the one who goes around the hospital and has done 100 baby photos that week. I mean someone who will take a bit of time to capture your baby and you together. For example a professional baby photographer who does black and white, and gets close and personal.

Too often we get baby photos without the Mother, and if the Mother is includes, then the Father hardly ever is included. Getting photos that include the full family is something you will not regret.

So if you are planning to have a baby soon you should also consider organising a photographer for your new addition.

But what should you look for when selecting a photographer?

- Do they work well with children

- take a look at their portfolio, do you like their work?

- how much do they charge? make sure you understand any costs up front

There are alternatives to getting a professional, almost everyone knows someone who is interested in photography and as such would be keen to help out. But always remember that they are not a professional and depending on their experience you may regret it.

Finally, make sure you do put time aside to capture this special part of your new born’s life. You will regret it in years to come if you always put it off until you have lost your chance.
