How Limoges Figurines and Boxes are manufactured
All Limoges boxes from France are ones that are unique and well made. This comes from the special process that is used for making one of these Limoges porcelain boxes or figurines.
First a design is going to be figured out for the material. This is a design that will have to be planned and drawn out before the actual molding process can begin. The design should feature such things as the right colors for the figure and the proper curves that will work for it.
After this is handled the design can be prepared. A large mold will be created for the process. This is a mold that is going to work to handle the proper shape of whatever is being handled. Once the mold is created a thick porcelain solution will be poured into the mold. This mold will only be useful for a few dozen times. After a mold wears out a new one for the exact same design will have to be made.
A notable thing about this process for making Rochard Limoges boxes and other materials is that the porcelain that is used comes from a variety of sources. Quartz and feldspar are by far the most commonly used materials in this porcelain. These are materials that are durable and will be able to create a thick material.
After the porcelain is poured into the mold it will have to dry out for a day. As soon as the drying process is finished the figurine or box can be hand finished. It will have to be smoothed out so that no jagged edges can be found. As soon as this is done it will have to be put into a kiln at 900 degrees Celsius.
The painting process can then begin. The material will first be dipped into enamel. It will then go into a kiln at 1200 degrees Celsius. Once this is done the paints can be applied onto the material.
Darker colors like blue and brighter colors like red will be handled separately. This comes from how after each color is added to a figurine it will have to go into a kiln again. The heating process for darker colors is going to be more intensive than that of what is used for lighter colors.
A notable thing about authentic Limoges boxes is that each one will be hand painted. This is a great thing for Rochard Limoges boxes because of how so many of them can have some impressive details. The hand painting process is also used as a means of helping to make every single box that is made unique.
As soon as the entire manufacturing process is finished the material will have its hinges attached onto it. When this is done the entire process of making a material will be finished. The Limoges item will then be able to be shipped from France to a retailer.
