Why does my almost 3 year old son cry when he sees or plays with his “baby” toys?

It really breaks my heart! I don’t know why this is. Every time he listens or sees or plays with his old toys (the ones he played with as a tiny baby) or if he listens lullabies he starts crying. Why is that?

Toddlers are emotional creatures. And they are sentimental too. He remembers feelings associated with those items. The feelings of being cuddled, held, fed, pampered. Maybe he misses those days. My two year old cries when she hears a lullabye my mom used to sing her as a 6 month old baby. We now live in Germany so she hasnt seen my mom in over a year. But, she remembers that song and she may not know why she cries, but she knows that it is making her sad for some reason.
