Why are Classical Music Collections So Long?

I’m new into classical music so you’ll have to excuse my ignorance. A few weeks ago I went to see Tchaikovsky’s 5th symphony. The performance was about 40 mins long. When I downloaded it, it has a bunch of tracks that are about 15 minutes long each totaling up to 2 hours. When I searched other classical music downloads the story was the same. Why is this?

You either downloaded duplicates of the same or different performance of the Tchaikovsky: The full work should last about 40 minutes, give or take just a few minutes.

Pop music = very short story.
Classical music = novel. Long or short, even the shortest of novels is almost always longer than the longest of short stories. (More in-depth plot to work out.)
