How to get rid of mould spores from Dolls house and Miniature Furniture?
Hi I wonder if anyone can help.
I’ve got a 20 year old Dolls House complete with miniature furniture and have stored it in my spare bedroom as I don’t have anywhere else to put it.
As my rented property dates back to the 17th Century and only has a Coal Heating System the temperature in the house during the winter months doesn’t get as warm as that of Modern Central Heated Property.
Anyway back to the Dolls House…I’ve noticed in the past that mould spores have formed on the fabric of the sofas and soft furnishing which I’ve removed with a damp sponge and left to dry.
However, during the summer I’ve noticed some mould spores on the carpet, wallpapers and external walls.
Has anyone had this trouble before with there Miniature Dolls House/Furniture and what have they done to remove/prevent this from occurring again??

The chlorine in bleach will kill mold, and there are various products that contain bleach and water or other things but of course too much exposure will also bleach out the colors or fade them, as well as making fabrics less strong.
I’d guess that drying out the whole dollhouse (or just parts) really well for a fairly long time would also kill the mold, using heat, fans, etc., in a non-humid area.
Or you could sand or cut off parts and patch or re-do, then perhaps seal once they’re very dry (or paint).
It’s possible that you could put the whole thing in some kind of container that would help keep the humidity out too, but in this case only after you’ve thoroughly dried everything perhaps. Even a box should help (if there isn’t so much humidity that it would be absorbed by the cardboard then held next to the dollhouse, etc). Or perhaps a large plastic bag (for xmas tree, even) but again you wouldn’t want any residual moisture trapped inside. You could also put “dessicants” inside the containers to help absorb any moisture that does get in… there are various types of those.
