Furniture left in house after closing date?

Hi, the seller of my house left some furniture in the house and now he wants it back. The closing date has already passed. I want to keep the furniture, so I was wondering if the furniture is legally mine, and if I will meet any future legal troubles if I do not give the furniture back.
The closing date was very recent, and the seller previously asked if I wanted to buy it but I said no. The furniture was not removed after I did not want to buy it.

I’ll be honest with you…technically, legally, anything that is left in the property after closing belongs to you unless there was prior arrangments for them to get it back.

Obviously the seller knew what the closing date was…it was his responsibility to have everything out by then.

I’m curious as to how long after the closing date he asked for it back…just curious.
